Introducing the Universal Data Tool
At wao.ai, we've spoken with hundreds of companies with a wide variety of data labeling needs. Each of these companies is trying to build a machine learning algorithm by taking some type of unstructured data, such as images or pdfs and teaching the algorithm to copy the labels or data entered by human annotators.
Almost all the companies we spoke with built internal tools for managing their data. In most cases, the internal tools cost time to build and maintain, and there was no free easy-to-use substitute.
That's why today we're introducing the Universal Data Tool, a simple tool for labeling a dataset for computer vision, natural language processing, data entry tasks and more.
We used the conversations we had with each company to maximize the value the Universal Data Tool provides:
- Embeddable into existing applications
- Can be downloaded and run as a desktop application on Linux, Windows and Mac
- Uses a simple open-source JSON data format for easy integration into machine learning workflows
- Data does not have to be uploaded to a "cloud"
- Supports web URLs and local files
- Easy-to-configure for non-programmers
- Can be used online from universaldatatool.com
- Fully open-source under the MIT license
